The Savannah Cat

The Savannah hybrid cat is an exotic species of cat that is a cross between the wild African serval and a domesticated house cat. They are the tallest and largest breed of domestic cats with a very distinctive color and exceptional personality. This unique breed became popular in the 1990's, and in 2001 the Savannah was officially accepted as a registered breed in the International Cat Federation (TICA).

Breeding the perfect Savannah cat is not easy and requires a lot of patience and practice. Hazina of Savannah starts breeding the F6 Savannahs first. However, this should be further developed so that in  Zukunft F1, F2, F4 and F5 Savannahs can be bred. We put a lot of time, effort and love into our cats and kittens

The Attitude

The keeping of the Savannah cat is considered particularly demanding, especially in cats of the first four generations. As an indoor cat, these cats often develop behavioral problems because they are not challenged enough.

However, keeping them outdoors is not a sensible alternative for generations F1 to F4. The feral serval in the Savannah cat is superior to the rest of the domestic cats in the territory and poses a threat to them and the rest of the wildlife.

Therefore please note: For the species-appropriate keeping of Savannah cats you need an outdoor enclosure with many activities.

From the F5 generation and upwards, you can also consider housing with access. When making a decision, it is important to consider the character and needs of the individual animal.

Savannah cats like to be kept busy

Their athletic build allows the Savannah cats to jump and climb up to two meters. Therefore, there should definitely be high places in the outdoor enclosure.

A stable onescratch treewith multiple floors is also essential. At the same time, various scratching furniture is used for claw care.

In addition to climbing opportunities, Savannah cats also need places to hide or play.cat tunnelorplayhouseyou should definitely offer your cat.intelligence gamesare also useful to keep the clever animals busyn

-----

They say dogs are man's best friend, but anyone who owns a Savannah knows that that statement can be disputed. Savannahs have personalities all their own, and while they're not exactly lap cats, they do love attention and the occasional tummy pat. These cats are very outgoing and energetic, so they need a lot of attention. They are also very affectionate and sweet, and when they bond with their human, they become loyal and affectionate. Savannahs are cats that have a dog-like personality. They are highly intelligent and can be taught to walk on a leash and do various tricks. A Savannah enjoys catching various objects, especially balls, and can be taught to play tag. Unlike a house cat, Savannahs love water, and swimming is one of their favorite activities.

Food

Savannah and the food

cats are predators

their organism is adapted to the way of life as a predator.
They feed on meat and find everything they need in their prey such as mice, rats, squirrels, rabbits, birds, lizards, fish and insects. This food is raw, contains a high proportion of animal proteins only, a low proportion of plant material and all enzymes, natural vitamins and minerals in a balanced composition.
All of the cat's internal organs and the short intestine are adapted to this type of diet.

raw food

approx. information per feeding (twice a day) for adult cats: 2-5 day-old chicks or feed mice, naturally defrosted, 1-3 raw chicken wings, 1-2 chicken thighs, 200g to 350g muscle meat and offal from beef, lamb, horse, rabbit , poultry or game, event. add some grain and vegetable flakes, complete supplements as indicated.

Savannahs need more lime than other cats, so give wings, necks and thighs with bones, for kittens you can put them through the wolf or buy them direct

ground feed.

feeding amount:

This depends heavily on the age, activity level and physique of the cat, as well as the energy density of the food. The approximate amount of raw food is about 30 - 50 grams per kg of body weight and feeding. Kittens, active mating cats and pregnant and lactating cats require more food than neutered cats.

The food can be served cool - but not from the fridge - so it lasts a little longer.

young animal rearing:

Kittens usually do not need any special food and from the 4th week they can be given the same raw food as the adults, after all there are no special mice for kittens in the wild either. Nevertheless, it should be noted that growing cats have an increased need for calcium and phosphorus compared to adult cats, which may not be covered by pure meat feeding with a calcium supplement that does not contain any phosphorus. Young cats should therefore also get ground bones, bone meal or dicalcium phosphate in their food, which contain phosphorus in addition to calcium. Feed that has been ground through a meat grinder and day-old chicks with their soft bones are excellent, possibly chopped up a little first. In contrast to other feeds, this diet is accepted spontaneously. The little ones are spared the well-known problems such as diarrhea, which otherwise so often arise when switching from breast milk to ready-made food or baby food. When the kittens are eating well, you can begin to gradually increase the size of the pieces of meat to get them used to chewing. Smaller parts with bones from chickens or rabbits can be given from the 8th week.

Complete Supplements

are ideally suited for barf beginners who are not yet very familiar with the topic of raw feeding and are unsure about the dosage of individual additives. Complete supplements offer a simple alternative here, as they contain all the necessary minerals, vitamins and trace elements in a sensible ratio.
